White Birch Gifts was founded in Maine after a devastating ice storm in January 1998. Toppled by the weight of the ice, the local birch trees bent to breaking, covering the ground with sad, lovely broken tops.

From the ruin came the genesis for White Birch Gifts.

Inspired by the elegant grace of the birch, we began creating handcrafted gifts from the white barked wood. We learned that the White Birch has many secrets to unlock.

Today we have a line of distinctive gifts and home accessories in which each piece is hand selected in the wild for beauty and character.

Our white birch grows in carefully tented stands of Betula paperifora, or paper birch, not far from Bar Harbor, Maine.

Our method of harvesting wood is actually pruning the stand for healthier, more even growth. A clump, or spinney, of six trees may be thinned to four, allowing better growth and more crown room. The branches that make up parts of the Bird Feeder, Coat Rack, and Picture Frames are clipped from dense branching areas to allow more even spacing of branches.

Once inside our workshop, the white birch is handcrafted with care by skilled Maine craftsmen and are dried in kilns of our own design. Here the finished product is packed and shipped.
